SONGS OF PRAISE
1st October 1961
A long-running religious BBC programme Songs of Praise broadcasts church services and in particular the singing of Christian hymns from churches from a different place and of varying denominations each week. The first broadcast was in October 1961 from the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cardiff.
It is one of the longest running series of its genre on television anywhere in the world.
In an online poll taken in 2019, JERUSALEM was voted the UK’s favourite hymn. Jerusalem is a poem by William Blake set to music by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916.
