Friday
The build-up to Christmas has started but Alan isn’t very well. I phoned his office today but he wasn’t in work so on the way home I stopped off at his house to check on him. He told me he had stayed in bed until 3 o’clock.

He still looked very pale but must have been feeling a bit better because he appeared at my house in the evening. He said he was cold. His Dad was home so there was no fire to speak of at his house. I must say that my Dad does like to see a good coal fire burning. My house is always warm.
I had leave at the beginning of the week so spent Monday Christmas shopping. I bought nearly everything on my present list. Alan had taken the day off to come with me. He paid for a jumper for me as my Christmas present. (Which meant he didn’t have the trouble of thinking of a what to buy for me!)
Tuesday was real luxury. Mum was out and I spent the whole day knitting and reading with nothing and no one to disturb me.
Back to work on Wednesday and didn’t see Alan on the train, which helped to make a miserable day at work even worse. That was the last of my leave used up until the new quota in January.
The TV has busted again. Dad has written a letter for Mum to take to the shop. He has asked for a new set. Although we rent the TVs I would have thought they would have given us a new one for rental. But I suspect they just send whatever is in the shop maybe after being reconditioned?
Monday
I went to Alan’s yesterday and helped him to put up his Christmas decorations. I held the drawing pins! Then this evening he came to my house and helped with our decorations. At 6’4” his height is very useful in some circumstances! He still looks terribly white and ill.
New TV delivered today. Let’s see how long this one lasts!
